旭山動物園の魅力を徹底紹介！ (An in-depth introduction to the charms of Asahiyama Zoo!)

今回は、北海道旭川市の旭山動物園の見どころ、魅力を徹底紹介いたします。(In this issue, we will thoroughly introduce the highlights and attractions of Asahiyama Zoo in Asahikawa, Hokkaido.)

旭山動物園は日本の北海道に位置する人気の動物園です。北海道の自然に囲まれた美しいロケーションに位置しており、多くの動物や観光客を魅了しています。旭山動物園は、動物たちを間近で観察できることで有名ですね。(Asahiyama Zoo is a popular zoo located in Hokkaido, Japan. Located in a beautiful location surrounded by the natural beauty of Hokkaido, the zoo attracts many animals and tourists. Asahiyama Zoo is famous for its animals, which can be observed up close.)

1967年7月1日に開園しましたが、2019年度の入園者数は1,391,428人（旭山動物園発表）とたくさんの方が動物園を訪れていることが分かります。(The zoo opened on July 1, 1967, and the number of visitors in fiscal year 2019 was 1,391,428 (according to Asahiyama Zoo), indicating that many people visit the zoo.)

動物園の特徴の一つは、北海道地域に生息する動物の展示が豊富であることです。訪れる人々は、オオカミやヒグマなどの地元の動物たちを見ることができます。また、動物たちの生息地を再現した広大なエリアで自然な環境を提供することで、動物たちのストレスを軽減しています。(One of the zoo’s unique features is its extensive display of animals native to the Hokkaido region. Visitors can see wolves, brown bears, and other local animals. The zoo also provides a natural environment in a large area that replicates the animals’ habitat, thereby reducing stress on the animals.)

これから、旭山動物園に行かれる方に、少しでも参考になればと思います。

旭山動物園では、特にペンギンやホッキョクグマといった北極圏の動物たちに関する展示が人気です。このような寒冷地に生息する動物たちを観察することで、訪れた人々は北海道の厳しい自然環境に触れることができます。(The Asahiyama Zoo is particularly popular for its exhibits on Arctic animals such as penguins and polar bears. By observing these cold-weather animals, visitors can get a taste of Hokkaido’s harsh natural environment.)

はじめに

是非、見てもらいたい動物を紹介します。それは、オランウータンとペンギンです。(Here are some animals that I would like you to see. They are orangutans and penguins.)

このほかにもたくさんの動物がいるのに、なぜ、オランウータンとペンギンなのか、このあと、説明します。(I will explain later why we have orangutans and penguins when there are so many other animals.)

旭山動物園内は32の施設があり、敷地面積は151,998.56平方メートルとのことです。東京ドーム（46,755平方メートル）約３個分の広さになります。(There are 32 facilities in Asahiyama Zoo, covering an area of 151,998.56 square meters. This is about three times the size of the Tokyo Dome (46,755 square meters)).

したがって、１日では到底すべてをまわりきれません。半日スケジュールを予定される方も多いと思います。また、園内は坂が多く、勾配もかなりあるため、大人でも息切れします。(Therefore, you will not be able to visit everything in one day. Many visitors plan to use a half-day schedule. Also, there are many hills and slopes in the park, so even adults may get short of breath.)

午前中がベスト

なぜ、午前中がベストかと言うと午後になるとオランウータンやペンギンは、お昼寝タイムなのでしょうか。オランウータンの豪快な綱渡りやぺんぎんの空中遊泳を見ることが難しくなるようです。(The reason why morning is best is that in the afternoon, the orangutans and penguins are probably taking a nap. In the afternoon, orangutans and penguins may be napping, making it difficult to see the dynamic tightrope walking of orangutans and aerial swimming of penguins.)

私の場合、開園と同時に入り、ぺんぎん館とオランウータン舎をまわりましたので、感動のシーンを観察できました。(In my case, I entered the park as soon as it opened and went around the Penguin Pavilion and the orangutan house, so I was able to observe the impressive scene.)

その後は、あざらし館、ほっきょくぐま館を見て、昼食にしました。午後３時頃、もう一度、あのシーンを見たいと思いペンギン館とオランウータン舎に行ったところ、綱渡りや空中遊泳は見ることができませんでした。(After that, we visited the Seal Pavilion and the Arctic Bear Pavilion and had lunch. Around 3:00 p.m., we went to the penguin house and orangutan house to see the scene again, but we could not see the tightrope walkers and aerial swimmers.)

動物の世界も人間と同じなんだなと感じました。食事の後は、自然と眠くなるでしょう。(I felt that the animal world is the same as the human world. After a meal, they will naturally become sleepy.)

オランウータン舎の見どころ

旭山動物園に来たら、これを見ないともったいないでしょう。(A visit to Asahiyama Zoo would be a waste if you don’t see this.)

旭山動物園には、ボルネオ島に生息するボルネオオランウータンがいます。オランウータンは、哺乳類の中で最も近縁な種として知られる人間に近い親戚です。彼らは主に森林地帯に生息し、木の上で過ごすことが多いです。(Asahiyama Zoo is home to the Borneo orangutan, which lives on the island of Borneo. Orangutans are close relatives of humans, known as the most closely related species of mammals. They live mainly in forested areas and spend most of their time in trees.)

高さ１７mの塔に張られたロープに、あのでっかいオランウータンがぶら下がって移動する光景は、感動ものです。自分がジャングルの中にいるかのような錯覚を覚えます。(The sight of the huge orangutan dangling from a rope stretched across the 17-meter-high tower is a moving sight. You feel as if you are in the jungle.)

ボルネオオランウータンの特徴は、体毛がオレンジ色で、オスは頬に大きなほお袋を持っています。木登りが得意で、長い腕を使って器用に移動します。知能が高く、道具を使ったり、社会的な行動を取ることが知られています。(The Bornean orangutan is characterized by its orange body hair and males have large cheek pouches. They are good tree climbers and use their long arms to move dexterously. They are highly intelligent and are known to use tools and engage in social behavior.)

あの高さから、誤って手を滑らせて落ちたら助からないでしょう。見てるこちらがヒヤヒヤします。サーカスのような命綱はありません。(If he accidentally slips and falls from that height, he will not survive. It is a very frightening situation to watch. There is no lifeline like in a circus.)

オランウータンの運動能力の凄さをあらためて知ることになります。ジャングルに行けない方は、旭山動物園で見ることが出来ます。(You will learn anew about the amazing athletic ability of orangutans. If you cannot go to the jungle, you can see them at Asahiyama Zoo.)

私が見たのはお母さんの「リアン」と妹の「モカ」でした。(I saw my mother “Leanne” and my sister “Mocha”.)

動物園は保護活動にも取り組んでおり、絶滅の危機に瀕する動物たちの保護や繁殖プログラムを行っています。これにより、多くの人々に自然保護の重要性を啓発しています。(The zoo is also involved in conservation efforts and has a conservation and breeding program for endangered animals. In this way, the Zoo educates many people about the importance of conservation.)

私は夏に訪れましたが、旭山動物園は四季折々の風景を楽しむことができる場所でもあります。春には花々が咲き誇り、夏には爽やかな風が心地よく、秋には紅葉が美しい景色を演出するようです。また、冬には雪景色が広がり、動物たちの冬の活動を観察することもできるとのことでした。(I visited in summer, but Asahiyama Zoo is also a place where one can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons. In spring, flowers are in full bloom, in summer a fresh breeze is pleasant, and in autumn the autumn leaves seem to create a beautiful scene. Also, in winter, the park is covered with snowy scenery, and visitors can observe the winter activities of animals.)

ぺんぎん館

入り口のトンネルを過ぎると頭の上をペンギンが泳ぎ回っています。天気が良ければ、ブルーバックとなるため、あたかもペンギンが空を飛んでいるような、そんな錯覚におちいります。(After passing through the entrance tunnel, you will see penguins swimming above your head. If the weather is fine, the blue background makes you feel as if the penguins are flying in the sky.)

旭山動物園には、いくつかの種類のペンギンがいます。主な種類としては、ジェンツーペンギン、キングペンギン、フンボルトペンギン、イワトビペンギンの４種類を見ることが出来ます。（2018年8月現在）これらのペンギンたちは、大きな水槽やプールで泳ぎ回る姿が観察できます。(Asahiyama Zoo has several species of penguins. Four main species can be seen: gentoo penguins, king penguins, Humboldt penguins, and rockhopper penguins. (as of August 2018) These penguins can be observed swimming around in large tanks and pools.)

なにせ泳ぐスピードがすごく、あっという間にどこかに行ってしまいますので、カメラでの撮影は至難の技です。

このうち、キングペンギンについて少し説明します。 エンペラーペンギンに次いで大きな種類で、オーストラリアやニュージーランド周辺の島々に生息しています。オレンジ色の羽毛と明るい黄色の模様が特徴です。(Of these, let me explain a little about king penguins. They are the second largest species after the Emperor Penguin and are found on the islands around Australia and New Zealand. They are characterized by their orange plumage and bright yellow pattern.)

8月はペンギンの繁殖の時期のようで、あまり泳がないと注意書きがありました。(There was a warning that August seems to be the breeding season for penguins, so they don’t swim much.)

私は、8月に行ったのですが、開園と同時に一番に入ったのがぺんぎん館でした。運が良かったのか、写真のようにペンギンたちが泳ぎまわっていました。(I was there in August and was the first to enter the Penguin Pavilion when the park opened. As luck would have it, the penguins were swimming around as you can see in the photo.)

しかし、午後は一羽も泳いでいませんでした。２階の室内展示場や屋外でのんびり昼寝をしてました。(However, none of the birds were swimming in the afternoon; they were taking a leisurely nap on the second floor indoor exhibit or outdoors.)

２階では、ペンギンのタマゴや羽を触れるコーナーが設けています。

ランチとおやつ

動物園は子供から大人まで楽しめるアクティビティを提供しており、家族連れやカップル、友人同士での訪問に最適です。園内にはレストランやカフェもあるため、食事を楽しみながらリラックスすることもできます。(The zoo offers activities for both children and adults, making it ideal for families, couples, and friends to visit. The park also has restaurants and cafes where visitors can relax while enjoying a meal.)

動物園の楽しみはお弁当ですが、園内のレストランには魅力的なメニューがたくさんあります。その中で、おすすめは写真のもぐもぐランチでしょう。(A fun part of the zoo is lunch, and the park’s restaurants offer a variety of tempting menus. Among them, our recommendation would be the mugu-mugu lunch shown in the photo.)

中身は、牛丼ですが半熟タマゴがのってました。レストランの雰囲気がよく、お腹が空いていたこともあり、とても美味しかったという印象です。(It was a beef bowl, but with a half-boiled egg on top. I have the impression that it was very tasty, partly because of the restaurant’s atmosphere and partly because I was hungry.)

あざらしがデザインされたランチボックスとエコバッグが付いてきますので、記念に持ち帰れます。(A seal-designed lunch box and eco-bag are included, so you can take home a souvenir.)

次に３時のおやつのおすすめは、メロンパンです。(The next recommended 3 o’clock snack is melon bread.)

北海道といえば、アイスクリームが定番ですが、ここはメロンパンですよ。園内は、先ほども触れましたが東京ドームの３倍の広さです。かなりの距離を歩くので、お腹が空きます。(Ice cream is the standard when it comes to Hokkaido, but here it is melon bread. As I mentioned earlier, the park is three times the size of Tokyo Dome. You will get hungry as you walk quite a distance.)

感想とまとめ

旭山動物園では、なぜかカラスを飼っています。もちろん、園内には自然のカラスもいるとのことです。(Asahiyama Zoo keeps crows for some reason. Of course, they also have natural crows in the zoo.)

あざらし館の見どころは、マリンウエイ（円柱水槽）をアザラシが泳ぐところを興味深く見ている人間たちを観察すると面白い発見があります。(The highlight of the sealarium is the Marine Way (cylindrical tank), where interesting discoveries can be made by observing the humans who watch with interest as the seals swim through the tank.)

園内は急な坂が多く、特にこども牧場のところは注意してください。小さなお子さんが、何人も転んでひざを擦りむいて泣いていました。せっかく、楽しんでたのにケガをするとぜんぶ、吹っ飛んじゃいます。(There are many steep hills in the park, especially at the Children’s Ranch, so be careful. Many small children were crying because they fell and scraped their knees. If you get hurt, you will lose all the fun you were having.)

訪れる際には、動物たちの健康と安全を考慮し、動物園が定めるルールを守ることが大切です。動物たちを尊重し、環境に配慮しながら楽しい時間を過ごすことができるでしょう。(When visiting, it is important to consider the health and safety of the animals and to follow the rules set forth by the zoo. You will have a good time while respecting the animals and the environment.)
